January meeting overview

The January 2012 meeting of the Chapter started by Karen informing the Community that Candidates Janice and Phil McCown have discontinued their affiliation. Phil has started his studies for the Permanent Diaconate and the time commitment for both will prevent them from continuing their LD studies. The Community was asked to keep the McCowns in their prayers. It was good to get back to our monthly meetings and 2012 will be another good year. We have agreed to have an Chapter Open house in June,…See More

IS HEAVEN A PLACE OR A PERSON?

This is a very interesting question which requires much thought, even after we have the answer!  Pope Benedict XVI has supplied us with the answer.  He writes, "The meaning of Christ's Ascension expresses our belief that in Christ the humanity that we all share has entered into the inner life of God in a new and hitherto unheard-of-way.  It means that man has found an everlasting place in God...We go to heaven to the extent that we go to…

WHAT was Jesus thinking about on the Cross?

Actually we do know what Jesus was thinking about on the cross.  He had 'Seven Words' on the cross.  These words or sentences came right out of His gut as He was dying on the cross.  They are worth meditating on and asking ourselves what would we say on our death bed?  Notice how often He was concerned about others.  Which saying particularly strikes you?

1.  Father, forgive them. They know not what they are doing.

2.  Today you will be with me in…

HOW'S YOUR LENT?

We have now passed the half-way mark for Lent.  How are you doing?  Great?  That's terrific!  Just so-so?  Join the crowd.  It is human nature to need a pick-me-up during Lent.  A 'Tira mi su'.  It is good to reevaluate our situation.  And, most importantly, it is never too late to have a great Lent, leading to a truly wonderful Easter.

The Office of Readings for the third week, Tuesday, featured a sermon by St. Peter Chrysologus in which he said:  "There are three…

HAVE YOU MET A DOMINICAN?

The Dominicans are fond of the saying, "If you've met one Dominican, you've met one Dominican."  The thing is we are all different.  We come from different backgrounds, educational levels, religious viewpoints.  We are different sexes, ages, races, etc.  Some are conservative;  some are liberal. This is why we accept all who wish to follow the 'Dominican Way of Life'.

We are united in our differences because we all follow Dominic who followed Christ.  It's a…
